DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - Decatur leaders are considering a request to commit $1 million a year for the next five years to help build a new civil rights complex centered on the Scottsboro Boys case.

Leaders of the nonprofit behind the project said the investment would help finish renovations at the Ruby Bates House and fund construction of a three-story museum planned next door.

They said the complex would preserve an important chapter of Decatur’s history while bringing more tourism dollars into the city.
