Judge Horton Home

Frances D. Tate noted “The relocation of the historic home of the late Judge James E. Horton Jr. marks a significant milestone in preserving the legacy of the Scottsboro Boys Trials and celebrating the progress made in civil rights." Judge Horton was the presiding judge of the Scottsboro Boys Trials held in Decatur, Alabama in the early 1930s. The transport of this significant piece of history took place on Thursday October 5-8, 2023. The home was originally located in Greenbrier, Alabama. It was moved to 212 Church Street NW to its new location in Old Town Decatur, Alabama.

The house will serve as a legal learning center within the museum complex, offering valuable educational resources and immersive experiences for visitors. Acquiring this residence is a significant addition to the museum, enhancing its historical authenticity.
