Help Preserve History

The project consists of three phases and costs are broken down accordingly. Phase 1 involves renovating and transforming the historic boarding house into a Civil Rights Museum. This home is where Ruby Bates stayed during the Scottsboro Boys Trials. Phase 2 is the addition of a multi-million-dollar expansion adjacent to Phase 1. Phase 3 is the relocation of the home of Judge James E. Horton to Old Town Decatur in the museum area where it will serve as a legal learning center. Judge Horton was the presiding judge of the Scottsboro Boys Trials. These buildings are critical pieces of history, and our mission is to restore them so that they can educate and inspire future generations about the fight for justice.

Your contributions will go directly toward specific renovation needs. By choosing to support a particular item, you are helping us bring this project closer to completion. Below are some of the critical items we need to restore this historic home. We are working to stop water intrusion, correct safety hazards, comply with ADA requirements and restore/repair this home for public use.
